WWI (jul 28, 1914 – nov 11, 1918)
Description:
Skin grafts were created in the first world war by Sir Harold Gilles who is dubbed the Father of plastic Surgery. He hired the most attractive Nurses and the town he did his surgery in was known as the town that didn't stare. Mirrors was removed from the ward and gilles often told them that they looked amazing and was very encouraging to the men who were very kind to Gilles and thankful. Gilles used a tubing method where he would grab skin from other areas of the body and use this almost like plasticine. the surgeries changed the mens lives. They were called the 'Gilles ginnepigs' However this i feel is harsh as gilles really cared for the men and the men were were very thankful .
