Black death (jun 21, 1346 – jun 21, 1353)
Description:
The Black Death was devastating for Europe more than 25 million people died which at the time 1/3 of population.
*Bubonic - had a 50-75% chance of death it was carried by fleas and most would die within 8 days. Symptoms include:
abdominal pain.
diarrhea.
nausea and vomiting.
fever and chills.
extreme weakness.
bleeding (blood may not be able to clot)
shock.
skin turning black (gangrene)
*Pneumonic - airborne disease 90-95% chance of dying. Death within 2-3 days. Symptoms include:
trouble breathing.
chest pain.
cough.
fever.
headache.
overall weakness.
bloody sputum (saliva and mucus or pus from the lungs)
*Septicemic - very rare very deadly symptoms included internal bleeding, normal bleeding and organ failure.
No one had a clue what had caused the Plague blaming it on everything such as: jews, gods and miasmas.
The Vicary method was used - shaving a chickens bottom and applying in to the buboes but it did't work.
