Rearmament (apr 23, 1933 – apr 23, 1939)

Description:

-In 1933, Hitler ordered his army generals to prepare to treble the size of the army to 300,000 men. He ordered the Air Ministry to plan to build 1,000 war planes. Military buildings such as barracks were built. He withdrew from the Geneva Disarmament Conference when the French refused to accept his plan that the French should disarm to the level of the Germans or that the Germans should re-arm to the level of the French.

-The nazis ordered the rearmament of Germany to rebuild its armed forces

-New tanks. battleships. fighter planes and guns were built, creating thousands of jobs.

-Huge government arms contract made factory owners and industrial bosses a fortune.

-Conscription was introduced in 1935. All males aged between 18 and 25 had to join the armed forces for at least two years. Within five years, the army grew from 100,000 to 1,400,000 creation even more jobs.

In order to facilitate the costs of rearmament, economics minister Schacht made trade links with South America and Eastern Europe in order to get the raw materials. Things went well - unemployment fell and rearmament progressed.
