The incursion itself began at 17:00 UTC February 21, 2008. Reports from NTV Turkey indicated that 10,000 troops were involved in the operation, and had advanced 10 km beyond the Turkish border into Iraq,[13][29] mainly around the Hakurk region. Another report from CNN-Turk said that 3000 special forces were involved.
