1950s Conformity (jan 1, 1950 – dec 31, 1959)

Description:

Immediately following World War 2, after the millions of soldiers came home, got married, and had kids, both men and women began to observe stricter, more traditional gender roles and raised their children in a traditional, nuclear family style home. While the woman's place was once again seen primarily in the home, they still continued to comprise a greater portion of the work force than in previous generations, and it became normal for women to work. The dual-income family thus became popular during this period. (Continuity: women continued to work outside the household) (Change: women began to revert to traditional gender roles) (Effect: the traditional nuclear family structure became popular again in U.S. society)
