Description:

During the Progressive Era, women became involved in a wide variety of different national organizations in significant numbers, not just the women's rights movement. Most famous among these movements were the prohibitionist movement, the foundation of settlement houses for immigrants, etc. Women played an important role in these movements, and for the first time women were participating in the public sphere en masse, in addition to fulfilling their usual roles as mothers and housewives of course. (Change: women entered public sphere) (Effect: it became socially acceptable for women to do things other than be housewives)
