Korean War (jun 25, 1950 – jul 27, 1953)

Description:

In 1950, Communist North Korea mounted an invasion of U.S. allied South Korea. Not wanting to allow Communism to spread to South Korea, the U.S. sent its military into the country. After nearly defeating North Korea and then being pushed back by hordes of Chinese reinforcements, the two sides reached a stalemate and signed a cease-fire. The war demonstrated that the U.S. was willing to commit its military to its policy of containment. (Continuity: U.S. containment of communism through proxy wars)
