Republican motherhood emerges as prominent idea about role of women in American society (jan 1, 1790 – jan 1, 1800)
Description:
This was the idea that women were to obtain an education, and upon becoming mothers, pass these values and knowledge on to their male offspring so that their boys would become meaningful contributors to democratic society. This idea of woman’s role in society dominated the latter half of the 18th century, after America gained independence from Great Britain.
