Reagan increases defense spending, establishes relations with Mikhail Gorbachev (jan 1, 1981 – jan 1, 1989)

Description:

Reagan essentially ended the period of easing tensions with the USSR and came with a much more aggressive foreign policy in the beginning of his presidency, significantly increasing defense spending and strengthening the military. However, along with the rise of Gorbachev in the USSR came much-improved relations between the U.S. and USSR. In fact, Gorbachev had good relations with Reagan and this helped to ultimately end the Cold War.
