Annexation of Texas, Mexican-American War, Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (jan 1, 1846 – jan 1, 1848)
Description:
The U.S. government’s annexation of Texas led to tense border disputes between the U.S. and Mexico, which helped bring about the Mexican-American War. President Polk’s expansionist views also contributed to the amount of resources put into this war. The U.S. won the war, and in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo acquired Texas up till the Rio Grande, California, and parts of New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado, a massive territorial expansion that would expand America to the Pacific coast and open it up to new foreign policy challenges.
