Genesis of Platforms (jan 1, 1706 – jan 1, 1872)
Description:
The concept for the platform required an enormous number of developments that could foster the idea.
1. The concept of military space being an open field.
2. The re-organization of troops in this space as a reference to the geometry of forts and fortifications.
3. Napoleon developing the military map and driving topography.
4. The Battle of Jena–Auerstedt. This battle changed the world as the losing Prussian forces had to try and figure out how to contend with this style of war.
It is this final concept that led to the development of Wargames.
5. Prussian Wargames use the topographic map as a space of battle. It also created:
* the referee (also, the dungeon master)
* System as, "disconnected" from each player (think of chess as person vs person whereas a wargame is person vs person vs system)
* chance as result of uncontrollable circumstances
* Hit tables
6. The development of a wargame industry symbolizes the ending of the genesis.
