- as long as enough wealth made its way back to England, they're good
- don't want to incite colonial resistance
Ended by French and Indian War
- war caused huge debt
- Parliament raised taxes to pay off debt
- breakdown of relationships
- British saw colonists as simpletons
- Proclamation of 1763
