Fall of Communism in Eastern Europe (jun 5, 1989 – dec 26, 1991)
Description:
Resulted from discontent due to economic decline and lack of freedoms in communist countries. Led to revolutions in Soviet satellite states. One-party communist rule was eliminated and replaced with democratic governments and market economies in these states. This eventually led to the collapse of the Soviet Union.
