Early - Middle 19th century AD: Cast iron irons, called sadirons, are developed in Europe, along with simpler, cleaner heating methods. (jan 1, 1800 – jan 1, 1870)

Description:

The development of the metallurgy industry and conception of cast iron in the 18th and 19th centuries effectively opened up the idea of the clothes iron to big change. The invention of the cast iron stove, for example, allowed one or more flatirons to be heated up without contacting any soot, something that, along with the hot box iron, completely solved the dirty flatiron problem. The use of cast iron in flatirons (making them sadirons) also allowed them to heat up quicker, and the sheer amount of material used in each iron made each iron heavy, and more effective at flattening things out.
