Spanish Civil War (jan 1, 1936 – jan 1, 1939)
Description:
As a reaction to the unstable political climate and the Great Depression in Spain, nationalist (soon to reveal themselves as fascist) forces were able to form an organized rebellion under General Francisco Franco. The war was one of passion, with people fighting for a variety of causes, such as for religion, for class, or to counter communism. The Spanish nationalist forces received air support from Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, and eventually Franco was installed as a dictator and reigned until 1975.
