Haitian Revolution (aug 14, 1791 – jan 1, 1804)

Description:

Being the first of its kind, the Haitian Revolution was a slave-led revolution which turned out to be successful. The Haitian population freed themselves from the French monarchy and its oppressive ruling by exterminating the white population of the island. This revolution was not recognized by the United States, who endorsed slavery, but it inspired many to fight for African American rights and freedom later on.
