Sit - in Movement (feb 1, 1960 – jul 16, 1960)

Description:

As a non-violent act to promote integration in restaurants, many African-American students would sit at restaurants and take up the spots there for long amounts of time. This proved very effective for attracting attention and soon, department store restaurants were desegregated in Baltimore.

This spurred on the Civil Rights Movement by also promoting integration of African-Americans as bus and taxi drivers. This was a movement that also involved a lot of people and attracted a lot of attention. This movement also managed to get more White involvement and support.
