Little Rock Nine (sep 4, 1957 – sep 24, 1957)
Description:
In September 4 1957, nine students were admitted to Little Rock High School. But due to the protest of Segregationist parents, the governor of Arkansas called in the National Guard to block the nine students from entering the school. This caused the story to make national headlines at the sight of soldiers blocking children from going to school. Later, the Mayor of Little Rock requested the President call in the National Guard to help enforce Integration instead. The integration succeeded and the nine students went to Little Rock High for the rest of the school year.
This helped spur on the Civil Rights Movement as this story attracted major attention through the media and raised awareness bout integration in schools.
