Berlin Blockade (jun 24, 1948 – may 12, 1949)

Description:

In order to try and force the Western allies to withdraw from Berlin, Stalin introduced a full blockade. All transport links were cut and nothing (even medicine, food or fuel supplies) was able to get in.
2.5 million West Berliners were forced to rely on reserves as power was cut but Truman and Atlee were committed to remaining in West Berlin.
The Berlin airlift got around the porblem for the West and so Stalin was forced to drp the blockade eventually.
