Industrial Revolution (apr 20, 1780 – dec 31, 1850)
Description:
The Industrial Revolution was a period characterized by the rise of capitalism and the introduction of new technologies. It was primarily prominent in Britain due to many factors. The British government heavily taxed its people to support a military that protected Britain's interest around the world. Britain also implemented tariffs at home and in its foreign colonies which promoted domestic production. The discovery of vast coal reserves secured a power source for industrialists to use in their new factories. Inventors revolutionized textile production and coal extraction especially. The Industrial Revolution itself led to the rise of the middle class and the social structures of the Victorian period.
