Description:
Vincente Fox was the first candidate to be elected from the opposition party of the PRI. His main contribution was that he improved relations with the U.S. by calming civil unrest in the Chiapas and cooperating with the United States to prevent drug trafficking and illegal immigration. He continued improving the Mexican economy and was credited with reducing the poverty rate from 43.7% in 2000 to 35.6% in 2006.
