French war with Algeria (jan 13, 1830 – mar 7, 1847)
Description:
The French initially invaded Algeria in 1830, capturing the capital and most of the coast. However, what initially appeared to be a quick and easy victory turned into a long, bloody guerrilla war over the next 17 years. The invasion was initially used by Charles X to gain political support, but dragged on longer to become a burden on the rule of Louis Phillippe. While ultimately victorious, the French suffered much economic and social stress over the war that was damaging in the long term.Added to timeline:
