French Conquest of Algeria (jan 1, 1830 – jan 1, 1847)
Description:
King Charles X began the French conquest of Algeria in order to incite French nationalism and win popularity. It was expected to be an easy win, but the Algerian people fought back, and the conflict dragged into a 17 year long war. The French ultimately conquered Algeria in 1847. This marks the rebirth of French imperial expansion.
