Karlsbad Decrees (sep 20, 1819 – apr 2, 1848)
Description:
The Karlsbad Decrees were introduced in the German Confederation as a response to increasing liberalism and desire for national unification. The decrees outlawed liberal political organizations, required policing of universities and newspapers, and established a committee of spies and informers to put down liberals and radical reformers. The decrees ultimately did not accomplish their goal as revolution broke out in the German states in 1848.Added to timeline:
