Karlsbad Decrees (sep 20, 1819 – apr 2, 1848)
Description:
The Karlsbad Decrees were introduced in the German Confederation as a response to increasing liberalism and desire for national unification. The decrees outlawed liberal political organizations, required policing of universities and newspapers, and established a committee of spies and informers to put down liberals and radical reformers. The decrees ultimately did not accomplish their goal as revolution broke out in the German states in 1848.
