Zedillo inherited the economic crisis in 1994 as the peso was forced the devalue and the Mexican stock market plunged. With the US's help, he was able to stabilize the economy and by 2000, the economy was improving. The next candidate for the PRI lost the election to Vincente Fox of PAN.Sources:
