Reign of Charles X (sep 16, 1824 – aug 2, 1830)
Description:
Charles X was ruler of France after his brother, Louis XVIII, died. He was a conservative king and wanted to restore order in France. He was also a very unpopular king -- to increase nationalism and support in France, he sent a military fleet to Muslim Algeria for battle. He thought that it would be an easy win for France, but instead enabled a long and hard war that lasted sixteen years. He also decided to repudiate Louis XVIII's Constitutional Charter and stripped the wealthy middle class of his voting rights, which led people to revolt in the streets and Charles ended up fleeing.
