Seven Years War (may 17, 1756 – feb 15, 1763)
Description:
The Seven Years War (which ironically only lasted 6 years) is considered by some to be the true "First World War" as it was a fight between European powers and their overseas colonies. The two notable beligerants were the English and the French who fought over control over the Ohio River Valley in North America. The War eventually led to an English Victory and the French would give up all their American colonies for a time. The war also put a huge strain on the English budget which would lead to the English taxing their own colonies.
