Andres M. L. Obrador, also known as AMLO, is the current president of Mexico. He had previously run for president twice (2006, 2012) under the PRD party. He would go on to run in 2018 under the National Regeneration Part (MORENA)--a coalition of left and right wing populists and win in July with over 50% of the popular vote. As mayor, he had been known for helping the poor and his campaign platform relied on appeals to helping the poor, fighting the drug war, eliminating corruption and increasing access to education. It’s still too early to see whether or not these promises will be fulfilled, as AMLO has only been elected for less than one year
