Mexican American War (jan 1, 1846 – jan 1, 1848)
Description:
Fought after Mexican troops fired on American troops
in a disputed part of the border. The American army
was vastly superior and won easily, taking the Mexican
capital. The U.S. paid Mexico 15 million dollars and
forgave 2 million in debt in return for about 55% of
Mexican territory that now makes up Texas, New
Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada and parts of other
states.
