Leo Tolstoy was a Russian writer who wrote novels, short stories, plays and (religious) philosophical essays. He has strong philosophical and political theories aside his novels. His philosophical and religious views were formed by studying the ministry of Jesus.
His opinion on art:
Art should infect (with natural unspoiled feelings) mankind by transferring the feeling or expression of the ‘artist’ to them (mankind/’the spectator’) to make it feel like they are experiencing this feeling themselves as if they are the artist who expressed it.
