Tokugawa Shogunate (jan 1, 1600 – jan 1, 1868)

Description:

The Tokugawa Shogunate was the last Japanese military government that used the feudal system. The Shogunate was ruled over by a shogun and contained daimyos, feudal lords who owned massive amounts of land in Japan. Under the Tokugawa Shogunate, Christianity became banned and trade with foreign countries was (for the most part) outlawed, as the Japanese wanted to maintain their culture and not be influenced by outsiders. The Shogunate was important because the founder, Tokugawa Ieyasu soon became one of the world’s greatest leaders. (4.3)
