Suleyman the Magnificent reigned over the Ottoman Empire from 1520 to 1566. Under Suleyman’s rule, the Empire witnessed large expansion and new laws. Also known as “Suleyman the Lawgiver”, he instituted several important laws that helped to reform the Ottoman Empire. His reign is important because Suleyman is now seen as one of the world’s greatest leaders, and his changes to the Ottoman government resulted in several important shifts in the Empire.
