Description:
The Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire began when the Spanish began to colonize the New World. The Spanish teamed up with indigenous Americans and rivals of the Aztecs in order to defeat them. Finally, in 1521, the Aztecs surrendered and the Spanish took control of the Aztec Empire. This is important because it’s an example of just how powerful the Spanish were at this time.
