Description:
The Songhay Empire was an ancient empire in West Africa. The Songhai Empire became a large force in the gold trade, as they took over the Mali empire. Most people in the Songhay Empire were Muslim, including the leader and governors. The Empire also played a big part in the slave trade, as they used enslaved labor to transport goods across the Sahara Desert and even exported African slaves to Europe. (4.1)
