Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley was an English Romantic novelist best known as the author of Frankenstein. She also edited and promoted the works of her husband, the Romantic poet and philosopher Percy Bysshe Shelley. Her father was the political philosopher William Godwin, and her mother was the philosopher and feminist Mary Wollstonecraft. Mary Shelley’s best-known book is Frankenstein (1818). It is a text that is part Gothic novel and part philosophical novel. It is also often considered an early example of science fiction. The novel narrates the dreadful consequences that arise after a scientist has artificially created a human being.
