Causes: the United States annexation of TexasTexas declared its independence from mexico in 1836, but mexico lw still considered texas to be part of mexico
Mexico loses and they sign the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo: establishes a new Mexico-US border (giving the US a ton more territory), mexico recognizes the US annexation of texas, and california and north are sold to the US for $15 million
Mexico lost about ⅓ of its territory
Mexican Cession: the fact that mexico gives the US land under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo: US gets California, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, more of Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming
