The Victorian Era (jan 1, 1832 – jan 1, 1901)

Description:

The Victorian Era took place between 1832 and 1901.

Victoria was queen in the UK during this period. She became queen 1837. The rest of Europe called the period La Belle Epoch. Political reforms in Europe, The reform bill 1832 gave some people the right to vote. Nonconformist churches appeared in the UK.

British global imperial expansion which made the British Empire the largest in history, they controlled over 25% of earth's surface. Due to great unpredicted demographics changes appeared. This gave the British great trading, naval and industrial supremacy.

The literature during this era started to flourish, the stories were sentimental and the stories included double standards. Female writers became more common for example Jane Austen and the Brontë sisters. Other writers that are famous from this period is; Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman, Charles Dickens, Oscar Wilde.
