The Siege of Vicksburg (may 18, 1863 – jul 4, 1863)
Description:
Because of the Union naval blockade of Southern ports, Confederate cotton had to be shipped across the Mississippi River, through Louisiana and Texas and out of Mexico to sell to European markets. This made the Confederacy split in half and cut off cotton sales to foreign markets. Union victory, casualties 19,233 total.
