The Victorian era (1837-1901) (jun 23, 1837 – jan 24, 1901)

Description:

The Victorian era is named after Victoria who was queen in UK during this period. She became queen 1837. The rest of Europe called the period La Belle Epoch.

Political reforms in Europe, The reform bill 1832 gave some people the right to vote. Nonconformist churches appeared in UK.

Britich global imperial expansion which made the British Empire the biggest in history, they controlled over 25% of earth's surface. Due to this great demographics changes appeared, and a lot of people immigrated. This gave the Brittish great trading oppertunities and indistrial superiority.

The literature during this era started to thrive, the stories was sentimental and included double standards. Female writers became more common for example Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters. Other writers that are famous from this period are; Emily Dickinson, Walt Withman, Charles Dickens, Oscar Wilde.
