Umayyed Caliphate
661 CE - 750 CE (jan 10, 661 – apr 10, 750)
Description:
The Umayyad dynasty or Omayyad was the first Muslim dynasty to rule the empire of the caliphate. The Umayyad family was very resistant to change and took many years to convert to Islam. The Umayyeds had many great architectural wonders such as the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus. But, they had made many administrative changes in the caliphate as well. Over the years they established Damascus as their capital, changed the official language to Arabic, and replaced the earlier coinage with Arabic inscribed ones.
