Description:
The reign of the Song was divided into two periods: Northern Song (960-1125 CE) and Southern Song (1125-1279 CE). The period of rule under the Song dynasty was a time of great advancements and invention. Some of the most important inventions in the history of Ancient China were made during this time including moveable type, gunpowder, and the magnetic compass. The arts also flourished- poetry and literature became popular due to the availability of the moveable type along with painting and performing arts gaining interest. A high value was put on education and many of the nobles were very well educated.
