Norman Invasion of England (1066 CE) (jan 1, 1066 – oct 14, 1066)
Description:
The conquest of the Kingdom of England was executed by the Duke of Normandy, William the Conqueror. On October 14, 1066, William defeated Harold II of England in the Battle of Hastings and established Normans as the rulers of England. The invasion of England led to the country becoming more closely linked with Continental Europe through the introduction of a Norman aristocracy, which lessened Scandinavian influences. It created one of the most powerful monarchies in Europe and built a sophisticated governmental system. The conquest changed the English language and culture, and set the stage for rivalry with France.
