Description:

Mali was a trading empire from West Africa. The empire was founded by Sundiata Keita and became renowned for the wealth of its rulers, especially Mansa Musa I. The Empire had many profound cultural influences on West Africa allowing the spread of its language, laws and customs along the Niger River. The kingdom also included the ancient city of Timbuktu, which was flourishing center of Islamic learning. This city became the destination of several European expeditions due to its reputation for prosperity. The Mali Empire was a sophisticated polity, with well organized military and administrative systems and advisers for the Emperor in its governance.
