The Fall of Constantinople was the capture of the capital of the Byzantine Empire by the Ottoman Turk army. This battle lasted from April 6, 1453 to May 29, 1453 and marked the end of the Byzantine Empire. Constantinople was transformed into Istanbul, marking the cultural and political change of the nation and the Turks took a foothold on European soil, gaining a permanent base there. Hagia Sophia, a church in Constantinople was converted into a mosque, impacting Christianity and the Holy Roman Empire and triggering the rise of Islam. The siege also led to the closure of the Silk Road and marked the beginning of the Age of Discovery, and the end of the Middle Ages.
