In D block, the last remaining cells on the bottom row were specially designed for solitary confinement. That is where the most dangerous criminals on Alcatraz spent most of their time. The bottom picture is a photo taken in the C block when the prison was open. C block is known for housing the most infamous criminal on Alcatraz, Robert Stroud a.k.a. “Birdman”.
