Victorian Era (1832-1901)

We don’t speak much about the Victorian era in Sweden but in English speaking countries they do. Queen Victoria took over throne in Britain in 1837 within the start of the democracy which she encouraged.

The Victorian era was called La Belle (beautiful) Epoche in Central Europe.

There were a lot of acts in form of reforms especially in UK since they wanted democracy.
The reform bill was signed in 1832
Nonconformist (non religious) churches didn’t belong to church → Churches had their ups and downs however these kind of churches had their downs.

British global imperial expansion which made the british empire the largest in history, had more than 25% english ground/soil covered. There was great unpredicted demographic changes. The British Imperium was also the head of trading, naval and industrial superacy.

Social, economical, and political upheaval arose.
Sentimental stories and stories about double standards, especially among higher classes were written often of female writers like Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters.

Books written by these authors were often criticizing the class society.
