Prohibition (jan 17, 1920 – dec 5, 1933)

Description:

The ratification of the Eighteenth Amendment created an era in American history known as “Prohibition”. The idea of prohibition became widespread in the early twentieth century due to the temperance movement. However, prohibition was difficult to enforce due to a rise in gang culture and bootlegging. The creation of gangs led to a period of violence that would make the government re-evaluate which was worse: alcohol or organized crime factions. The Twenty-First Amendment repealed the Eighteenth Amendment on December 5, 1933 for the betterment of the nation as a whole.
