Andrew Jackson Presidency (mar 4, 1829 – mar 4, 1837)

Description:

When Andrew Jackson was elected in 1829, the American government was shaped into a new form of democracy. Jackson was similar to Jefferson as far as the issue of the amount of government present within the nation. However, Jackson believed that whatever governing should be done, should be done by the common man. This belief earned him the nickname: Crusader for the people. Jackson’s main goal during his terms was to “clear the swamp”. This meant getting rid of the corrupt politicians and unfairness in Washington and involving the common man in the government. Jackson constantly battled with Nicholas Biddle and Henry Clay on the American system and the Bank of The United States in attempt to rid the government of bureaucracy. However, Jackson is remembered as the president responsible for the Indian Removal Act and the Trail of Tears.
