Theodore Roosevelt gained publicity after leading the Rough Riders in the Spanish-American War. Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt was the twenty-six American president. He valued nature and imperialism—as a result, he founded many national parks and supported the Open Door Policy, which coerced China into trading with Western world powers. His attitude towards foreign policy could be summed up by a famous saying of his: “speak softly and carry a big stick”.
