War of 1812 (jun 18, 1812 – feb 17, 1815)

Description:

29 years after the independence of the United States from Great Britain, the two were once again fighting each other. The conflict began after the British had gone to war with Napoleonic France and had set up a blockade, which the United States claimed was illegal, and it stopped the US from trading with France. The United States then declared war on Great Britain, but it was not an action that was popular among the people of America, as right north of them was British controlled Canada. Canada attacked the US, and the US attacked Canada, attempting to invade it numerous of times. After many failed attempts to invade by the British and the decimation of American ships by the British fleet, neither of the sides wanted to continue fighting. This was also the war at which the UK invaded Washington DC and burned many important buildings such as the old U.S. Capitol Building. The sides later signed a type of treaty that would return the nation back to what it was like before they had declared the war.
